Install FTB Essentials on your Minecraft Server

FTB Essentials is a server-side Minecraft mod that adds homes, warps, teleport requests, utility commands, and server administration tools. This guide explains how to install FTB Essentials on an UltraServers Minecraft Java Edition server.

Important: Create a server backup before changing the server software or installing mods. The Minecraft version, mod loader, FTB Essentials release, and dependency versions must be compatible. A mismatch can prevent the server from starting.

Meet the Prerequisites

Confirm that the server uses Minecraft Java Edition.
Create a server backup.
Stop the server before changing its software or installing mods.
Confirm the server's exact Minecraft version.
Confirm that the server uses a mod loader supported by the FTB Essentials release you intend to install.

Depending on the Minecraft version, releases may be available for NeoForge, Fabric, or Forge.

Do not install FTB Essentials on Vanilla, Paper, Spigot, Purpur, Pufferfish, or other server software that does not support the selected mod loader.

Compatibility: Not every FTB Essentials release supports every mod loader. Confirm that the Minecraft version and mod loader shown in the selected release match the server before installing it.

Install FTB Essentials

Sign in to the UltraServers panel.
Open the Minecraft server you want to manage.
Stop the server and wait until it shows as offline.
Open the 1 Minecraft Mods tab.
Select 2 CurseForge as the provider.
Enter 3 FTB Essentials in the search field.
Locate the official FTB Essentials (Forge & Fabric) project by FTB.
Click the project's 4 Download icon.

Open the version menu.
Select a 1 release that matches:

The server's exact Minecraft version.
The server's installed mod loader.

Review the dependencies shown by the installer.
Enable 2 the dependency installation option if the selected release lists required dependencies.
Click 3 Install mod.
Wait for the installation to finish.

Important: The panel may suggest a release automatically, but the suggestion may not always match the server. Verify the Minecraft version and mod loader before installing the mod.

Dependencies: Required dependencies vary by Minecraft version and mod loader. For example, a Fabric release may require FTB Library (Fabric), Architectury API, and Fabric API. Do not install a Forge or NeoForge dependency on a Fabric server. Install only the dependencies listed for the selected release.

Start and Verify the Server

Start the server.
Open the Console tab.
Wait for a successful startup message similar to:

Done (...)! For help, type "help"

Review the console for:

Missing-dependency errors.
Incompatible-version errors.
Mod-loader errors.
Duplicate mod files.

Confirm that FTB Essentials appears in the loaded-mod information.
Connect to the server.
Test the home commands:

/sethome review-test
/home review-test
/delhome review-test

Confirm that the commands create, use, and delete the temporary home successfully.
FTB Essentials also provides commands such as /tpa, /tpahere, /spawn, /back, /warp, and /listwarps. Some commands require operator permissions or configuration changes. See the official FTB Essentials command reference for the complete list.

Namespaced commands: FTB Essentials can optionally register its commands under /ftbessentials. When namespacing is enabled, a command such as /home becomes /ftbessentials home.

Install FTB Essentials Manually

Only use this method if the required release is unavailable through the panel's Minecraft Mods tab.

Open the official FTB Essentials CurseForge page.
Open the Files tab.
Filter the available files by:

The server's exact Minecraft version.
The server's installed mod loader.

Download FTB Essentials and every dependency required by that release.
Confirm that all downloaded files use the same Minecraft version and mod loader.
Stop the server and wait until it shows as offline.
Open the Files tab in the UltraServers panel.
Open the mods directory.

Create the mods directory if it does not exist.

Remove older, duplicate, or incompatible FTB Essentials files.
Click Upload.
Select the downloaded .jar files.
Wait for the upload to finish.
Confirm that every required file appears in the mods directory.
Start the server and complete the verification steps above.

Warning: Do not mix Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge files. Files made for different Minecraft versions or mod loaders are not interchangeable and can prevent the server from starting.

Configure FTB Essentials

The current FTB Essentials server configuration is stored in:

config/ftbessentials.snbt

The configuration contains a section for each command. Depending on the command, you can change whether it is enabled and adjust settings such as cooldowns, warmups, and limits.

Stop the server.
Open the Files tab.
Open the config directory.
Open ftbessentials.snbt.
Make the required changes.
Save the file.
Start the server.
Test the affected command.

Important: FTB Essentials reads config/ftbessentials.snbt during server startup. Restart the server after saving the file. Configuration changes cannot be reloaded while the server is running.

Permissions: Install FTB Ranks if you need more granular control over which players can use specific FTB Essentials commands. Some administration commands require operator permissions by default.

Troubleshoot FTB Essentials

Resolve a Version or Loader Mismatch

Stop the server.
Open the Change Version tab.
Confirm the server's exact Minecraft version and mod loader.
Open the Files tab.
Open the mods directory.
Confirm that FTB Essentials and every dependency use the same Minecraft version and mod loader.
Remove incompatible or duplicate .jar files.
Install the correct releases.
Start the server and review the console.

Resolve a Missing Dependency

Read the first relevant console error.
Note the missing mod and required version.
Download the dependency for the server's exact Minecraft version and mod loader.
Upload the dependency to the mods directory.
Start the server again.
Confirm that the missing-dependency error no longer appears.

Resolve Missing Commands

Confirm that FTB Essentials loaded successfully.
Check whether the command is disabled in config/ftbessentials.snbt.
Check whether command namespacing is enabled.
Try the namespaced command, such as:

/ftbessentials home

Confirm that the player has the required permissions.
Restart the server after editing the configuration.

Resolve a Startup Failure

Read the first relevant error in the console instead of relying only on the final shutdown message.
Confirm that every installed mod supports the same Minecraft version and mod loader.
Remove duplicate FTB Essentials or dependency files.
Remove files built for another Minecraft version or mod loader.
Start the server again.
Restore the server backup if the server still does not start.
