Install a Minecraft mod
This guide will go through how to install a Mod on your Minecraft server.
Confirm Server Software
Not all server types can run mods. Common server software like Spigot, PaperMC and its derivatives like Pufferfish, Purpur are unable to run mods as they only support plugins.
Below is a table that shows which server software supports mods. Note that the server software that support the mods are often not cross compatible, so a mod made for Fabric will not run on Forge even though both are made to be servers that support mods.
Software | Plugins | Mods |
Vanilla | ❌ | ❌ |
Paper | ✅ | ❌ |
Pufferfish | ✅ | ❌ |
Spigot | ✅ | ❌ |
Folia | ✅ | ❌ |
Purpur | ✅ | ❌ |
