Install Biomes O’ Plenty on your Minecraft Server

Biomes O’ Plenty adds more than 50 biomes and additional plants, trees, blocks, and world-generation features to Minecraft. This guide explains how to install Biomes O’ Plenty on an UltraServers Minecraft server and prepare each player’s Minecraft client.

Important: The server and every connecting player must use the same Minecraft version, mod loader, Biomes O’ Plenty version, and dependency versions. A mismatch can prevent the server from starting or players from connecting.

Meet the Prerequisites

Confirm that the server uses Forge, NeoForge, or Fabric.
Do not attempt to install Biomes O’ Plenty on Vanilla, Paper, Spigot, Purpur, Pufferfish, or another server type that does not support mods.
Create a server backup before changing the server software, mods, or world.
Use a fresh world for the most reliable world generation.
Confirm the server’s exact Minecraft version and mod loader.

Important: Select dependency files made for the same Minecraft version and mod loader as Biomes O’ Plenty. Forge, NeoForge, and Fabric files are not interchangeable.

Install Biomes O’ Plenty on the Server

Sign in to the UltraServers panel.
Open the Minecraft server on which you want to install the mod.
Stop the server by clicking the 1 Stop button.
Open the 2 Minecraft Mods tab in the left-hand navigation menu.

Select 1 CurseForge or Modrinth as the provider.
Enter 2 Biomes O' Plenty in the search field.
Locate the official Biomes O’ Plenty project.
Click the project’s 3 Download icon.

Open the 1 version menu.
Select a release that matches the server’s Minecraft version and mod loader.
Enable the 2 toggle to install dependencies.
Click 3 Install mod.

Important: The panel can suggest a compatible release, but the suggested release may not always be correct. Verify the Minecraft version and mod loader before installing the mod.

Prepare the World

Warning: Adding Biomes O’ Plenty to an existing world can create inconsistent terrain boundaries or prevent its biomes from generating correctly. Create a backup and use a fresh world unless you understand the required world-data changes.

Keep the server stopped while preparing the world.
Create a fresh world before starting Biomes O’ Plenty for the first time.
Do not delete an existing world until you have created and verified a backup.
Start the server only after Biomes O’ Plenty and all required dependencies have been installed.

For Minecraft 1.18 and newer, Biomes O’ Plenty does not require a change to server.properties.

Configure Legacy Versions

Only follow these instructions when installing an older version of Biomes O’ Plenty:

For Minecraft 1.15 through 1.17, set the following value in server.properties:

level-type=biomesoplenty

For Minecraft 1.12.2 and older, set the following value:

level-type=BIOMESOP

Minecraft 1.18 and newer does not require a Biomes O’ Plenty level-type value. Do not add one when installing a current release.

Install Biomes O’ Plenty on the Client

Every player must install Biomes O’ Plenty and its required dependencies before connecting to the server.

Install the same mod loader used by the server:

Forge.
NeoForge.
Fabric.

Download the same Biomes O’ Plenty release installed on the server.
Install the matching version of TerraBlender when required.
Install the matching version of GlitchCore when required.
Install Fabric API if using Fabric.
Place the files in the client’s mods folder or install them through a compatible Minecraft launcher.
Start Minecraft using the matching mod-loader profile.
Confirm that the client reaches the main menu without displaying mod-loading errors.

Do not install a Forge mod on a NeoForge or Fabric client. The client’s Minecraft version, mod loader, mod release, and dependencies must match the server.

Start and Verify the Server

Start the server from the UltraServers panel.
Open the 1 Console tab.
Wait for a successful startup message, such as 2 Done (...)! For help, type "help".
Review the console for missing-dependency or incompatible-version errors.
Do not attempt to connect while the server is still starting.

The first startup may take longer while the server generates the world and creates configuration files. Warnings do not always mean that startup has failed. Wait for the successful startup message before connecting.

Start Minecraft using the client profile prepared earlier.
Connect to the server.
Explore a newly generated world.
Confirm that Biomes O’ Plenty biomes and blocks appear.

Troubleshoot Biomes O’ Plenty

Resolve a Missing Dependency Error

Stop the server.
Read the missing-mod message in the console.
Confirm whether TerraBlender, GlitchCore, or Fabric API is missing.
Install the required dependency for the same Minecraft version and mod loader.
Start the server again.

Resolve a Version or Loader Mismatch

Confirm the server’s Minecraft version.
Confirm whether the server uses Forge, NeoForge, or Fabric.
Compare the filename and release of every server and client mod.
Remove duplicate or incompatible mod files.
Replace files built for a different Minecraft version or mod loader.
Restart the server and client.

Resolve Client Connection Errors

Confirm that the client and server use the same:

Minecraft version.
Mod loader.
Biomes O’ Plenty release.
TerraBlender release.
GlitchCore release.
Fabric API release, if applicable.

Remove additional client or server mods that cause compatibility errors.
Restart the client before reconnecting.

Resolve Missing Biomes

Confirm that Biomes O’ Plenty and its dependencies loaded successfully in the console.
Test the installation with a newly generated world.
For legacy Minecraft versions, confirm that level-type uses the correct value.
Restore the server backup if the existing world no longer loads correctly.
