Install CarpetMod on your Minecraft Server

Carpet, commonly called CarpetMod, adds technical gameplay, server administration, performance monitoring, and automation features to Minecraft Java Edition. This guide explains how to install Carpet on an UltraServers Minecraft server using Fabric and the panel's built-in mod installer.

Important: Create a server backup before changing the server software or installing mods. The server's Minecraft version, mod loader, and Carpet release must be compatible. A mismatch can prevent the server from starting.

Meet the Prerequisites

Confirm that the server uses Minecraft Java Edition.
Create a server backup.
Confirm the exact Minecraft version used by the server.
Stop the server before changing its software or installing the mod.
Do not install Carpet on Vanilla, Paper, Spigot, Purpur, Pufferfish, or another server type that does not support Fabric mods.

Install Fabric

Skip this section if the server already uses Fabric for the correct Minecraft version.

Sign in to the UltraServers panel.
Open the Minecraft server you want to manage.
Stop the server and wait until it shows as offline.
Open the 1 Change Version tab.
Select 2 Fabric.
Select the 3 Minecraft version supported by the Carpet release you intend to install.
Click the 4 Install button.
Select the recommended Fabric build.
Review the installation options and confirm the change.

Warning: Do not select Wipe Server Files & Accept EULA unless you intend to reset the server. Wiping the server removes its existing files. Restore your backup if changing the server software causes the existing world to stop loading.

Install Carpet

Keep the server stopped.
Open the 1 Minecraft Mods tab.
Select 2 Modrinth as the provider.
Enter 3 Carpet in the search field.
Locate the official Carpet project.
Click the project's 4 Download icon.

Open the 1 version menu.
Select a Carpet release that matches the server's exact Minecraft version and uses Fabric.
Review any dependencies shown by the installer.
Enable the 2 dependency option if the selected release lists required dependencies.
Click 3 Install mod.

Important: The panel may suggest a release automatically, but the suggestion may not always be correct. Verify the Minecraft version and Fabric platform before installing the mod.

Start and Verify the Server

Start the server.
Open the Console tab.
Wait for a successful startup message similar to:

Done (...)! For help, type "help"

Confirm that the startup log lists Carpet among the loaded mods.
Enter the following command in the panel console:

carpet

Confirm that the console displays the installed Carpet version and its available settings.
Review the console for missing-dependency, incompatible-version, or Fabric-loading errors.

Carpet's in-game commands are permission-controlled. A non-operator player may not be able to use /carpet even when the mod is installed correctly. Use the panel console to verify the installation, or grant the player the appropriate operator permissions.

Install Carpet Manually

Only use this method if the required Carpet release is unavailable through the panel's Minecraft Mods tab.

Download Carpet from its official Modrinth page or official CurseForge page.
Select a release for the server's exact Minecraft version and Fabric.
Stop the server and wait until it shows as offline.
Open the Files tab.
Open the mods directory.

Create the mods directory if it does not exist.

Click Upload.
Select the downloaded Carpet .jar file.
Wait until the upload finishes.
Confirm that the Carpet .jar file appears in the mods directory.
Start the server and complete the verification steps above.

Troubleshoot Carpet

Resolve a Version Mismatch

Stop the server.
Open the Change Version tab and confirm the server's exact Minecraft version.
Confirm that the installed Carpet release supports that Minecraft version.
Open the Files tab and navigate to the mods directory.
Remove incompatible or duplicate Carpet .jar files.
Install the correct release.
Start the server and review the console.

Resolve a Fabric Error

Confirm that the server uses Fabric rather than Vanilla or plugin-only server software.
Confirm that the selected Fabric build supports the server's Minecraft version.
Check the console for the name of any missing dependency.
Install the missing dependency for the same Minecraft version and Fabric.
Start the server again.

Resolve Missing In-Game Commands

Enter carpet in the panel console to confirm that the mod loaded.
Confirm that the player is a server operator.
Reconnect to the server after changing the player's permissions.
Confirm that the required command belongs to the base Carpet mod.

Some commands and rules require a separate Carpet extension.

Resolve a Startup Failure

Read the first relevant error in the console rather than relying only on the final shutdown message.
Confirm that every installed mod supports the same Minecraft version and mod loader.
Remove the most recently installed or updated mod.
Remove duplicate versions of Carpet from the mods directory.
Start the server again.
Restore the server backup if the server or world still does not start.
