Change the MOTD on your server

In this guide, we will show you how to change the MOTD on your Minecraft server. To help with the process, we will use tools such as MiniMessageViewer and MCTools’ MOTD Creator.

MOTD, or Message of the Day, is a message that displays in your Minecraft server list and can also be used as a form of server title. New players who input your server's IP will be presented with your MOTD in their server list.

Access Panel

• Login to the panel. See Access the Panel for instructions.
• Go to the 1 Servers tab.
• 2 Then, go into your server.

• Stop the server.

Create the MOTD

• If you are modifying the MOTD on a Velocity server, please use MiniMessageViewer.
• You can use MCTools’ MOTD Creator for non-Velocity servers.
• Once you have created your MOTD, make sure to copy it to your clipboard.

Edit Config File

• Click the 1 Files tab.
• 2 Locate the server.properties file and open it.
• For Velocity servers, find velocity.yml file and open it.

• 1 Locate the motd line and paste your MOTD.
• The format should be motd = "This is my MOTD"
• Click the 2 Save Content button.

Start the Server

• Start your server.
• You can verify if the MOTD appears by checking your server list.
