Add Custom Worlds to your Minecraft Server
This guide will show you how to add custom worlds to your Minecraft server. This means adding worlds you can download online or even uploading a world from your single-player worlds. This guide will teach you the basics of replacing existing worlds with new ones.
Select a World
- You can go to any Minecraft world site and download a world you want to play.
- Ensure this is a
zipfile. - The zip file may either contain a folder with the world files or just the contents of a world file, which changes how extraction works. For the latter, you need to create a folder, put the zip in it, and then extract.
Stop the Server
- Login to the panel. See Access the Panel for instructions.
- Go to the server that you wish to upload your custom world to.
- Stop the server.
Upload the World.
- Navigate to the 1 Files tab.
- Press 2 Upload and select your custom world
zipfile. - You can also directly drag and drop the file into the file manager.
- Next, the newly uploaded file needs to be extracted.
- This can be done by pressing 1
...and the 2 Unarchive button.
- Delete or rename the existing world folder.
- To keep your old world, take a backup and download it OR rename the existing
worldfolder tooldworldor something memorable. - Next, rename the newly extracted folder to
world. - You can do this by pressing 1
..., then 2, and clicking the Rename button.
Start the Server
- You can start your server and play your new world if you have followed all the steps correctly.
- Ensure your server versions match the world version you downloaded, or unexpected errors may occur.
Add a New Dimension (26.1+)
Starting with Minecraft 26.1, all dimensions — including the Overworld — are stored inside a single dimensions folder within your main world folder. This section explains how to add a new dimension to an existing world using this layout.
New Folder Structure
- The main world folder (
worldby default) now contains adimensionssubfolder that holds every dimension, including the Overworld, custom dimensions and additional worlds added by world management plugins (Multiverse, MyWorlds, and similar). - Vanilla dimensions live under the
minecraftnamespace: world/dimensions/minecraft/overworldworld/dimensions/minecraft/the_netherworld/dimensions/minecraft/the_end- Custom dimensions from datapacks or plugins use their own namespace and follow the same pattern:
world/dimensions/<namespace>/<dimension_name>- Player data is now stored in
world/players/.
Stop the Server
- Login to the panel. See Access the Panel for instructions.
- Open the server you want to add the dimension to.
- Stop the server.
Upload the Dimension
- Navigate to the Files tab.
- Open the
world/dimensions/folder inside your main world folder. - Create the namespace folder if it does not already exist. Use
minecraftfor vanilla dimensions, or the namespace defined by your datapack or plugin. - Enter the namespace folder and press Upload to add your dimension
zipfile. - Press
...next to the uploaded file and click Unarchive to extract it. - Confirm the extracted folder is named correctly (for example
the_nether,the_end, or your custom dimension name), then delete the leftoverzipfile.
Start the Server
- Start the server.
- Join the server and run
/execute in <namespace>:<dimension_name> run tp @s ~ ~ ~to teleport into the new dimension and confirm it loads correctly. - If the dimension fails to load, check the console for errors and confirm your server version matches the source the dimension was exported from.
