Install Better MC on your Minecraft Server

Better MC is a collection of Vanilla+ Minecraft modpacks that add new biomes, dimensions, structures, mobs, equipment, quests, and other gameplay improvements. This guide explains how to install Better MC on an UltraServers Minecraft server and install the matching modpack on your computer with Prism Launcher.

Important: The server and every connecting player must use the same Better MC edition and modpack release. A different edition or release can cause mod-mismatch errors and prevent players from connecting.

Meet the Prerequisites

Install the latest version of Prism Launcher on your computer.
Create a backup of your server before installing or reinstalling a modpack.
Confirm that your server has enough resources to run Better MC.
Decide which Better MC edition you want to install:

Modpacks generally require more resources than vanilla Minecraft servers. We recommend an Advanced plan for Better MC. If necessary, see our Upgrade or Downgrade a Game Server guide.

Better MC releases change over time. Record the complete modpack release selected on the server and install that same release in Prism Launcher. Do not rely on an example release number from a screenshot.

Install Better MC on the Server

Sign in to the UltraServers panel.
Open the Minecraft server on which you want to install Better MC.
Stop the server.
Open the 1 Modpacks tab in the left-hand navigation menu.
Select 2 CurseForge from the Provider menu.
Enter the relevant search term in the 3 search field:

Enter BMC5 for Better MC NeoForge.
Enter BMC3 for Better MC Fabric.
Enter BMC4 for Better MC Forge.

Locate the correct Better MC edition and click its 4 Install button.

Select the required release from the 1 Modpack version menu.
Record the complete release name. You must select the same release in Prism Launcher.
Review the 2 Delete all files option.
Click 3 Install to begin the installation.

Warning: Enabling Delete all files permanently deletes the server’s existing files. Create a backup before enabling this option. Enable it only when you want a clean installation and no longer require the existing files.

Installing a modpack over an existing world can cause corruption or incompatibility. Review the Better MC release notes before using an existing world with a different modpack edition or release.

Wait for the installation to finish.
Start the server after the installation completes.
Open the Console tab.
Wait until the console displays a successful startup message, such as Done (...)! For help, type "help".
Do not attempt to connect while the server is still starting.

The first startup can take several minutes because the server must generate configuration files and initialize every mod. Warnings do not always indicate that startup has failed. Wait for the successful startup message before connecting.

Install Better MC in Prism Launcher

Open Prism Launcher.
Click 1 Add Instance.
Select 2 CurseForge in the left-hand sidebar.
Enter the relevant search term in the 3 search field:

Enter BMC5 for Better MC NeoForge.
Enter BMC3 for Better MC Fabric.
Enter BMC4 for Better MC Forge.

Select the correct Better MC project from the 4 search results.
Open the 5 Version selected menu.
Select the exact modpack release installed on the server.
Click 6 OK to create the instance.

Prism Launcher obtains the Minecraft and mod-loader versions required by the selected modpack. You do not need to create a separate custom instance or manually select Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge before installing the modpack.

Wait for Prism Launcher to finish creating the instance.
Follow any prompts to download files that Prism Launcher cannot retrieve automatically.
Double-click the new instance to start Better MC.
Sign in with a Microsoft account that owns Minecraft if prompted.
In Minecraft, open Multiplayer and add the UltraServers server address.
Connect to the server.

Some CurseForge creators restrict third-party launchers from downloading their files automatically. If Prism Launcher lists missing files, follow its instructions to download and add each required file.

Update Better MC

Create a new server backup before updating the modpack.
Confirm that the desired release is available in both the UltraServers panel and Prism Launcher.
Review the release notes for removed mods, world-generation changes, and known compatibility issues.
Stop the server.
Install the new release from the server’s Modpacks tab.
Update or recreate the Prism Launcher instance with the same release.
Start the server and wait for the successful startup message.
Connect only after the server and client use the same Better MC edition and release.

Do not update only the server or only the client. The complete Better MC release must match on both sides.

Troubleshoot Better MC

Resolve a Mod Mismatch

Confirm that the server and client use the same Better MC edition.
Compare the complete release name in Prism Launcher with the release installed on the server.
Install the matching release if the names differ.
Remove manually added mods unless they are also installed on the server and are compatible with the selected Better MC release.

Resolve Startup Problems

Wait several minutes for the first startup to finish.
Review the console for an out-of-memory error, missing dependency, or incompatible mod.
Confirm that the selected plan has enough resources.
Restore the server backup if the problem began after installing or updating the modpack.
Review the release notes before attempting to load an existing world with another edition or release.

Resolve Prism Launcher Downloads

Follow Prism Launcher’s instructions for files that require manual downloads.
Confirm that each downloaded file is placed in the location requested by Prism Launcher.
Retry the instance installation after adding the required files.
Update Prism Launcher if CurseForge downloads continue to fail.
